WASHINGTON – The 163rd Safe Haven Baby Box will be blessed at the West End Fire Station today at 3 p.m. today.
The state’s newest baby box is located at 1002 West Walnut Street in Washington.
There will be a ceremony to bless the baby box today at 3 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
After Wednesday’s ceremony, the box will be available 24/7 as a safe, anonymous way for mothers to surrender an infant.
Since its inception, 14 infants have been placed in these baby boxes this year, and 35 total since the first baby was surrendered in 2017.
Safe Haven Baby Boxes was founded by Monica Kelsey in 2015 to give mothers/parents a safe and legal option to surrender their baby 100% anonymously. Safe Haven Baby Boxes’ mission is to prevent the illegal abandonment of newborns by raising awareness and offering a 24-hour hotline for mothers in crisis.
