MIAMI CO. – A traffic stop on South Broadway Avenue in Peru resulted in a drug arrest.
Tuesday, at approximately 11:03 p.m., Trooper Kegan Kern conducted a traffic stop on a blue Hyundai due to the license plate being expired in 2022.
While speaking with the driver, Jeffrey Azbell, 57, of Peru, IN, Trooper Kern noticed indicators that criminal activity might be afoot and requested assistance.
ISP K9 Trooper Andrew Baldwin and his canine partner Mack arrived on the scene. Trooper Baldwin utilized his K9 to conduct an open-air sniff, which indicated the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.
A subsequent search of the vehicle discovered meth, narcotic and legend drugs.
Azbell was arrested on felony charges of possession of meth, a legend, and narcotic drugs
Trooper Kern was assisted on the scene by other troopers from the Peru Post, Peru Police Department, and Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
