NORTH VERNON – Jennings County rallied from an early deficit to stop Bedford North Lawrence 3-1 during girls high school soccer action on Thursday.
BNL’s Britta Warren recorded the first goal, scoring off a crossing pass from Rachael Barr just seven minutes into the match. But the Panthers answered with two goals late in the first half and a clinching goal early in the second.
“We controlled the first 10-15 minutes of the first half, had the ball by their goal, and had several shots,” BNL coach Bret Roberts said. “I think the score could have easily been flipped with how many shots we had. They had less shots than us, but theirs went in and ours unfortunately didn’t.”
The Panthers pulled even with 16 minutes left in the first half, then took the lead at the five-minute mark. Their insurance goal came with 33 minutes left. Maddy McIntosh scored twice and Audrie McClintock added one for Jennings (4-2-1).
“They had some quick girls as forwards that were hard to defend,” Roberts said. “They played very offensive minded and outnumbered our defenders in the box.”
The Stars (3-5-0 overall, 0-4-0 in the Hoosier Hills Conference) will visit Jeffersonville on Saturday.
