Margaret Louise Burton, 98, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at the White River Lodge in Bedford.
Born June 5, 1925, she was the daughter of Clyde Cummings and Emily May (Soverns) Cummings. She married Edwin “Bill” Speer on February 9, 1942, and he preceded her in death in 1993. She then married Kenneth Burton on June 5, 2007, and he preceded her in death on September 9, 2021.
Mrs. Burton was a homemaker and attended Faith Mission Church in Bedford since 1997. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Surviving to cherish the memory of Margaret are her children, Janet Sue Matlock and her husband Carl, Randall Dwight Speer and his wife Carolyn, Charlotte E. Matlock and her husband Joe; nine grandchildren, Missy (Randy) Dunn, Randy Speer, Amy (Jeremy) Holsapple, Cindy (Russell) Rundell, Diane (Daniel) Survance, David (Jilayne) Matlock, Steve Matlock, Michael (Kim) Matlock, and Susanne Mincer; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; two half-sisters, LaDonna Franklin of Gallatin, TN, and Wanda Hess of Seymour; sister-in-law, Gail Connerly; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one brother, James Cummings; a half-brother, Wayne Cummings; and two brothers in infancy.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 12th at 10:00 a.m. at the Faith Mission Church in Bedford with Rev. Steven Manley officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford. Visitation will also be held at the church on Monday, September 11, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service hour.
