INDIANA – New research has revealed the summer fashion trend that each American state wants is loving the most with crochet clothing being the most popular.
The research conducted by fashion brand Boohoo analyzed Google Keyword data to establish the summer fashion trends that have the highest search volume for the trend itself as well as related terms such as, how to style said trend and the aesthetics associated with each said trend in each American state.
The analysis revealed that crochet clothing had the highest number of states searching for it the most, with a total of 28 American states, including Connecticut, Indiana, Montana and Florida. Crochet clothing, particularly crochet dresses and skirts have seen a surge in popularity this summer, having gone viral on apps such as TikTok. In fact, on Pinterest alone, there has been a 566% increase in interest for ‘crochet tops’ in the past six months. Crochet clothing is easy to style over another item of clothing or just on its own, and is an ideal way to achieve an effortless summer vacation night look with the loosely woven style allowing for a cooler, and more comfortable, stylish ensemble. Crochet clothing is also the most popular summer fashion trend across America as a whole with combined monthly search volumes for the trend averaging at 110,543.
Low rise jeans and pants are the second most popular summer fashion trend with 17 states searching for how to style them more than any other trend including California, Arizona, Texas and Iowa. Having a revival in popularity from the early 2000’s, interest in low rise pants and jeans have risen 238% on Pinterest in the past three months alone. Whilst daunting for many, low rise jeans and pants can be styled with a casual t-shirt or halter neck top to achieve the perfect summer look, inspired by the early 2000’s.
A total of four states searched for fringed clothing the most out of any summer trend – the third highest number of states in the research. States with residents searching for fringing the most are Kentucky, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas. Incorporating fringing into your clothing is a fun way to dress up any outfit and is particularly great for events such as parties, weddings or just a night out with the girls. If you’re apprehensive about where to start when it comes to fringing, opt for a denim jacket with fringe detailing, a classic summer staple with an added trending feature.
Rosette accessories were the most searched for summer fashion trend in only one state – North Dakota. Rosettes are a fantastic statement accessory that encapsulates summer fashion. They’re a great addition for dressing up a simple, understated outfit, or being the finishing touch to a floral ensemble.
Other popular summer fashion trends across America include sheer clothing, the likes of which have been seen on celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Dua Lipa, 1970s fashion which has seen a revival in the past year thanks to popular culture such as the release of Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis and the recent miniseries on Amazon Prime, Daisy Jones and the Six and metallic clothing, popularized by the likes of Miley Cyrus and Beyoncé.

It’s also fascinating to see the influence that many famous faces have on fashion trends, with celebrities such as Dua Lipa, Beyoncé and more, all jumping on these trends and showcasing their outfits to their millions of fans online.”
