JUDAH – Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Road 37 and Old State Road 37 Friday morning.

Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies and first responders rushed to the scene at 11:34 a.m.

According to police, a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 42-year-old Matthew Deckard, of Bloomington was traveling north on State Road 37 at the same time 19-year-old Garrett Turner, of Bedford, was traveling west on Old State Road 37 in a 2011 Ford passenger car.

The stop light for northbound traffic on State Road 37 was red. Deckard failed to stop for the light and continued through the intersection crashing into Turner’s car.

Deckard’s vehicle had significant damage and traveled through the median across the southbound lanes of State Road 37 coming to a stop on the west side of State Road 37, north of the intersection. The vehicle then caught on fire.

Deckard was transported by LifeLine ambulance to IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

Turner had to be freed from the wreckage and was then airlifted by StatFlight from the scene to an Indianapolis hospital.
