INDIANA – Much of this summer’s work in Marion County has focused on improvements to I-465. The two directional closures allowed crews to do the foundational work needed so east and westbound traffic could move onto new pavement later this year. Communities south of I-465 will notice work picking up as we enter fall.
In two separate, but related operations, Belmont Avenue south of Banta Road is expected to close in late September so crews can repave the roadway starting at Banta and moving south. In early October Banta Road under the future I-69 will be closed for approximately 15 days. Both closures are expected to be in place until mid-to-late October.
During repaving operations residents of Lighthouse Landings will need to use the complex’s northern exit to connect with Tibbs Avenue to access Southport Road. There will be more information about these closures in the next week’s On Track newsletter.
Motorists may notice the large structure taking shape to the south of the eastbound lanes of I-465. Bridge crews have constructed the first half of the fly-over bridge that will carry I-69 northbound to I-465 westbound.
Southport Road traffic is expected to switch into a new phase this week, with crews pushing both lanes of traffic onto fresh pavement on the north side of Southport Road.
Mann Road to eastbound I-465 is expected to be closed through mid-October as crews continue to construct MSE walls and make improvements to Thompson Road.
Nighttime single-lane closures are expected on I-465 between Kentucky Avenue and U.S. 31.
The right turn lane in the roundabout from eastbound S.R. 144 to Waverly Park Road is restricted for the next two to three days to finish up a curb island.
We encourage motorists traveling along S.R. 37 north of S.R. 144 to use extra caution as the concrete barrier that separated the north and south lanes has been replaced with construction barrels.
The actual starting date and duration for work and any closures may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur.
