BEDFORD – A Bedford Police officer arrested a Springville woman after stopping her for a traffic violation on Tuesday, September 5.
Police arrested 35-year-old Sara Mitchell, on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and a legend drug, and an outstanding warrant for operating a vehicle while never licensed.
On that day an officer was patrolling on 16th Street just after 8 p.m. when he noticed a blue 2020 Ford Ecosport traveling west with an expired license plate. The officer activated his red and blue lights and stopped the driver Sara Mitchell.
Mitchell told the officer she didn’t have her driver’s license with her and that the vehicle belonged to her mother.
She then admitted she never had a driver’s license. She was then asked to step out of the vehicle and if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. She stated, “No, it’s my mother’s car.”
The officer then asked permission to search the vehicle and Mitchell denied that request.
The officer then learned Mitchell was wanted on an outstanding warrant and she was detained.
A Lawrence County Sgt. Michael Williams responded with his canine Fleck who alerted officers to drugs in the vehicle. In the center console, police found a baggie of marijuana and a baggie of marijuana in Mitchell’s purse. They also found a pill vial in her purse containing Trazodone Hydrochloride, and Alprazolam she did not have a prescription for.
The vehicle was towed by Stone City Collision.
