INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales returned from an international trip to Taiwan with a bipartisan delegation from the United States.
Secretary Morales was one of several secretaries of state selected to participate in the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) Delegation to Taiwan. While in Taiwan, Secretary Morales met with government officials, universities, business and agriculture leaders, semiconductor industries, trade organizations focused on science and Aerospace, and the American Institute of Taiwan. Secretary Morales was able to promote Hoosier farmers and crops such as corn, soybean, and pork throughout his visit and several Indiana academic institutions including Purdue University, when discussing science and technology.
As the Chief Election Officer, Secretary Morales also met with the Central Election Commission to learn about the election process and the upcoming presidential election in Taiwan.
“I was honored to participate in this productive bipartisan delegation with other secretaries from across the country. This trip reinforced the need to continue strengthening Indiana’s ties with Taiwan. I will always embrace the opportunity to show off the Hoosier state to the rest of the world,” said Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales.
Taiwan maintains commercial, investing, trade, cultural, educational relations and people-to-people exchanges with the U.S. through the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in Washington, D.C., and Taipei Economic and Cultural Offices (TECO) throughout the U.S.
This trip is the most recent example of Secretary Morales’ efforts to put Indiana on the international stage. Since taking office, he has led a bipartisan delegation of international election observers to Guatemala, hosted an international business conference, and welcomed several dignitaries and diplomats to the Indiana Secretary of State’s office.
Taiwan has been hosting NASS delegations for over two decades. No taxpayer funds were used for this trip. The NASS delegations are coordinated and paid for through Taiwanese organizations. Pictures from the trip can be found here: https://we.tl/t-2B8SmVE3P5
