BORDEN – Bedford North Lawrence suffered three losses in the Borden Invitational during high school volleyball action on Saturday.
The Stars (6-13) dropped straight-set decisions to Charlestown (25-21, 25-18), North Harrison (25-16, 25-18) and Class A No. 9 Borden (25-23, 25-21).
In the opening match against the Pirates, BNL fell into an immediate 8-1 hole and couldn’t recover. Camryn Anderson totaled 7 kills, Sammie Gratzer added 6 kills, Isabelle Harding had 4 kills, Sara Williams had 11 digs, and Trinidy Bailey recorded 22 assists and 9 digs.
BNL battled serving issues in the clash with the Cougars.
“We played good volleyball, we just gave away too many points,” BNL coach Whitney Carroll said. “If you take away our eight missed serves, we’re in that game.”
In the finale, the Stars pushed the Braves to the brink. Gratzer had 10 kills, Anderson totaled 8 kills and 11 digs and Bailey finished with 24 assists.
“We played great volleyball and had a lot of good drives,” Carroll said. “In the first set we forced a timeout at 23-23 and had the ball. It ended with our error at the net and a hitting error. Give Borden credit, they’re a solid team and have had a great season so far. It’s always good experience for us to play a solid team.
“It’s hard to look at 0-3 and not be a little disappointed but we’re seeing lots of good things on the court. We just need to get a bit more consistent.”
BNL will host Orleans on Monday.
