MITCHELL – The Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa, Inc. of Mitchell’s annual Candlelight Tour is scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Spring Mill State Park, east of Mitchell on State Road 60 East.
In traditional dress, Tri Kappa members and their families along with Spring Mill employees and their friends will be reenacting the pioneer life of their ancestors by inhabiting the houses and buildings of the restored village to make it come alive, as it would have been in the mid-1800s.
Pioneer crafts, demonstrations, and entertainment by many musical groups will be a part of the tour. Visitors are asked to please bring a flashlight. Tri Kappa Members will sell concession and food items in the Carriage House.
The tour is from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. There will be a park admission charge of $7.00 for in-state licensed and $9.00 for out-of-state licensed vehicles.
The village tour is free of charge.
According to park manager Mark Young, buses will shuttle visitors from the Lakeview Activity Center (nature center) and visitors with overnight accommodations from the campground parking lot to the village. Tri Kappa would like to thank Lawrence County Tourism for a grant that provided buses for shuttling visitors.
Tri Kappa is a statewide sorority, which supports many community and state charity, educational, and cultural projects. The Mitchell chapter has sponsored the Spring Mill Candlelight Tour since 1967. It has become a popular kick-off event for the week-long Persimmon Festival in Mitchell.
