BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested Friday, September 15 after Bedford Police officers were requested to McDonald’s following a report of a man passed out in a vehicle in the drive-thru.
When officers arrived they found a black Ford pickup partially in the drive-thru preventing customers from being able to drive through the parking lot.
They found 65-year-old Terry Luttrell in the driver’s seat. He was asked to step out of the vehicle. Police say Luttrell smelled of alcohol. Police say Luttrell was struggling to remove his seatbelt and an officer had to assist him out of the vehicle. Once he exited the vehicle, Luttrell was unsteady on his feet and could not maintain his balance.
Luttrell was asked to submit to a standardized field sobriety test and he refused. He then attempted to enter back into his vehicle. He was detained and placed in handcuffs. He was given multiple verbal commands to get into the police vehicle. He refused to get into the vehicle and attempted to head-butt an officer. He had to be forcefully placed in the patrol car. He then attempted to kick officers.
Luttrell was transported to IU Health Hospital after a warrant was issued for a blood draw. He was then transported to jail on charges of operating while intoxicated, OWI with a prior conviction, and resisting law enforcement.
On the way to the jail, Luttrell stated he was at McDonald’s to get food for his grandson and admitted he had been drinking.
Luttrell’s vehicle was towed from the McDonald’s lot by Mikels Towing and Recovery LLC.
