BLOOMINGTON – Today, businesses across the state celebrated National Voter Registration Day by joining forces with the newly launched Indiana Business Alliance for Civics (IBAC) and the League of Women Voters of Indiana to help boost civic and voter engagement in this November’s municipal election.
Companies registered people – including their employees – to vote and educate voters on early voting access. These included goodMRKT (Fort Wayne), Switchyard Brewing Company (Bloomington), IGA (Nashville), Elm Street Brewing Company (Muncie), and Sun King Kokomo (Kokomo).
IBAC, formed in partnership between Business for America (BFA), the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, and the Indiana Bar Foundation, is open to every Hoosier business, from large corporations to small businesses and solo entrepreneurs. The alliance provides tools and resources to help them increase civic engagement and improve civic education amongst their workforce and within the communities they serve.
Nathan Gotsch, Business for America’s Indiana state director, was on hand at the goodMRKT event in Fort Wayne, and noted how exciting it was to see this partnership in action. “Businesses across the state care about increasing civic engagement, and they know that starts with themselves and their workforce,” said Gotsch. “National Voter Registration Day is a perfect opportunity to begin those conversations.”
The deadline to register to vote in this fall’s municipal election is October 10th. Early voting starts the following day (October 11th) and the election will be held on Tuesday, November 7. Hoosiers can register to vote or check their status at indianavoters.com.
Elanco, Eli Lilly and Company, Powers & Sons Construction, and Salesforce are among the companies that have already joined IBAC. Membership is now open to any Indiana business, chamber of commerce, or trade association, who can join the alliance and access resources at indianabusinessalliance.org.
