MITCHELL – A Mitchell man was arrested early Wednesday morning after a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputy stopped his vehicle after the driver crossed the center line multiple times on Dixie Highway.
The driver of the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, 50-year-old Phillip Tincher, of Mitchell, pulled over at the intersection of Dixie Highway and Wesley Chapel Road.
The officer said Tincher appeared to be intoxicated. While handing the officer his registration the officer noticed several white pills loose in the glovebox. The officer asked about the pills and Tincher handed the officer one. The pills were buspirone hydrochloride which is only available by prescription. Tincher did not have a prescription for the drug.
The officer then asked Tincher to perform several field sobriety tests which he failed and was detained.
Tincher was transported to IU Health Hospital for a blood draw and then transported to jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and possession of a legend drug. He was issued a written warning for driving left of center.
