STATEHOUSE – State Rep. Stephen Bartels (R-Eckerty) was recently appointed to serve as chair of the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee.
“I’m honored to take on this leadership role, especially as it aligns with my goal to keep Hoosiers and our communities safe, and to support those in uniform,” Bartels said. “My law enforcement background, military service, and experience serving as county council president will help guide me as we work on policies supporting those who serve Indiana and protect our nation. As a strong believer in less government, I remain committed to fully vetting and examining proposals so that what is passed truly makes a difference instead of adding unneeded layers of bureaucracy and red tape.”
Bartels said his political philosophy aligns with Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, which states that basic needs for humans must be met before they can pursue more intellectual and creative goals.
“We have a responsibility to provide access to food, water, and shelter,” Bartels said. “We also have a responsibility to provide for the safety and security of our citizens, and their property. By meeting these basic needs, Hoosiers can thrive in other areas.”
“As a military veteran and former law enforcement officer, Steve brings a breadth of experience and knowledge to this committee,” said House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers). “He’s a great fit for this critical role as we continue our work to support all the men and women who serve and have served our state.”
Bartels will also continue to serve on the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee, and the House Public Policy Committee.
