Bicknell man received 50 years sentence for child molestation

KNOX CO. – A Bicknell man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison by Knox County Circuit Court Judge Monica Carpenter Gilmore after a jury convicted him on a child molestation charge causing serious bodily injury.

Andrew Derouin

Andrew Derouin, 24, was arrested in September 2019 on a charge of child molesting causing serious bodily injury and rape when the victim is mentally disabled or deficient with an enhancing circumstance. He posted a $7,500 bond and was released.

Knox County Prosecutor Dirk Carnahan said Derouin was entrusted with the care of a 15-month-old child.

According to Carnahan, the victim’s mother left the room to take a shower. When she returned, she discovered her child had been injured. The child was then taken to the hospital.

A pediatric nurse who was also a sexual assault examiner at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes testified that the story provided by Derouin to her did not align with the injuries she observed on the child.

A pediatrician from Riley Hospital for Children who treated the young victim testified the child’s injuries were the “most severe she has ever seen in a child that young.”

A Knox Circuit Court jury took under ten minutes to convict Derouin on September 21, 2024.

Derouin was arrested following a Knox County Sheriff’s Department investigation into the allegations.
