Man arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated

BEDFORD – Bedford Police Officer Taylor Daugherty stopped the driver of a Jeep Commander after learning the vehicle was registered to a person with a suspended driver’s license.

Due to the tinted windows, the officer could not see who was driving the vehicle.

Floyd Vorice

Officer Taylor Daugherty stopped the Jeep Commander. The driver was 32-year-old Floyd Vorice, of Bedford. He became frustrated with the officer and said “kind of frustrated for being pulled over for this” and began recording the officer.

The officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Vorice presented his driver’s license but then pulled it away when the officer reached for it. The officer asked for the license again and he handed the officer his gun permit and advised he had a weapon.

The officer asked where the weapon was and Vorice said the gun was on his person.

He was asked to step out of the vehicle and the gun was in Vorice’s waistband. The officer then told Vorice she was going to remove the gun. When Officer Daugherty went to remove the weapon Vorice blocked the officer’s hand from retrieving the weapon.

During that moment, Major Blake Wade was able to secure the weapon.

While speaking to Vorice, the officers detected the odor of alcohol and asked if he had been drinking.

Police say Vorice’s speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot and he had poor manual dexterity.

Vorice failed several field sobriety tests and refused to do a breathalyzer. Officers then obtained a search warrant for a blood draw.

Vorice was detained on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and OWI refusal.
