Linton man fires handgun into crowd and now faces a murder charge

BLOOMINGTON – A Linton man is behind bars facing a murder charge after Bloomington Police say he pulled a handgun at a house party and fired into the crowd, killing one man and injuring another.

On Sunday, December 3, at approximately 2:00 a.m., officers with the Bloomington Police Department responded to the 500 Block of South Park Avenue after a report of multiple shots fired.

When officers arrived they located multiple people in the area that were leaving a large house party. Bystanders told officers that someone had been shot.

Officers searched the area and located a 23-year-old Bloomington man who had suffered a gunshot wound to his chest. Officers immediately began life-saving measures, but they were unsuccessful and the victim died from his injuries.

Officers also located another 19-year-old Bloomington man with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Witnesses at the scene told investigators that a larger-built white male wearing a pink shirt with facial hair produced a handgun and began firing the weapon into a crowd at the party.

A short time later, an Indiana State Police Trooper stopped a vehicle with a passenger that matched the description of the possible shooter.

Police detained three people in the vehicle including 21-year-old Isaiah Joseph Deleson Ramos, of Linton. In the vehicle, police found a handgun. The occupants of the vehicle were transported to the Bloomington Police Department to be interviewed.

Detectives responded to the scene of the shooting and interviewed multiple witnesses. It was learned that Ramos and the other two passengers in the vehicle were denied entry into the party because one of the individuals had a visible handgun in their waistband.

The three men demanded entry into the party and a physical altercation ensued which made its way into a nearby alley.

At that time, witnesses stated that they observed Ramos, who was wearing a pink sweater, begin firing a handgun into the crowd.

Ramos was then charged with murder and criminal recklessness.

This investigation remains active and no further information is available for release.
