INDIANAPOLIS – Motorists should be aware of changing traffic patterns on the southwest side of Indianapolis this weekend as I-69 Finish Line crews move eastbound lanes of I-465 to new pavement.
Beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, I-465 EB will be reduced to one lane between I-70 and US 31, with lanes reopening by 5 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 18. Lane closures will allow traffic to move to newly-constructed eastbound lanes as construction shifts to I-465 WB. All three westbound lanes will remain open throughout the weekend.
During weekend restrictions, the speed limit on both east and westbound I-465 will remain at 45 miles per hour. Once the traffic shift is complete on the morning of Monday, Dec. 18, motorists will be traveling on new pavement and are encouraged to slow down, pay attention to changing conditions, and avoid distractions.
Several ramps will also be closed starting Friday evening. The following ramps will close starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, and reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18:
- I-70 EB/WB to I-465 SB/EB
- SR 67 (Kentucky Ave.) to/from I-465 EB
- Mann Rd. to I-465 EB
- SR 37 (Harding St.) to/from I-465 EB
- I-465 WB to US 31 NB (East St.)
The southbound US 31 (East St.) ramp to I-465 WB will remain closed through the spring of 2024.
A map of all lane and ramp closures is available here.
In addition to lane and ramp closures, existing access from northbound SR 37 at Edgewood Ave. will permanently close and Harding St. will be restricted to single lanes north and south of the I-465 interchange beginning Dec. 15. Restrictions on Harding St. will be in place through most of 2024 during I-465 bridge work.
Motorists should expect increased congestion over the weekend while restrictions are in place. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and find alternate routes. The entire I-69 Finish Line corridor is on track to open to traffic by the end of 2024.
