JASPER – Jasper and Jeffersonville both posted wins over Bedford North Lawrence during a double dual swim meet on Thursday.
In the boys meets, the Red Devils clipped the Stars 95-84, while the Wildcats recorded a 111-72 triumph. In the girls meet, Jeffersonville splashed to a 138-42 win over BNL, while Jasper totaled a 147-36 victory.
BNL’s Garrett Gabhart was the overall winner in the 100-yard backstroke, touching in 55.16. The Stars also claimed the 200 freestyle relay as Oliver Brown, Jayden Duke, Porter Brown and Carson Puckett clocked 1:41.95.
Gabhart was second in the 200 individual medley (2:07.59) and Oliver Brown was second in the 100 free (55.37).
“A good day overall for this time of year,” BNL coach Adam Young said. “Everyone is sore and tired from training. PRs should be a challenge this time of year but we had plenty of them throughout the meet.
“Garrett Gabhart had a big day with some very nice swims. Carson Puckett had a great day breaking through the one-minute barrier in the 100 free for the first time. Cookie King put a very nice 500 free, having not swam that event since her freshman year. Ava Lipp had a good day inching closer to breaking the one-minute barrier in the 100 free.
“No question Jasper is back after a down year last year. If we want to repeat at the sectional, the guys are going to have to put a complete effort together. We still have a lot of runway to get better. We weren’t at full strength today and had to shuffle the lineup in some places. The girls have a shorter timeline. They are only a couple of weeks away from HHCs and around a month from sectional. I am very excited to see what they do once we start winding down towards end of season taper.”
BNL will host Columbus East on Jan. 4.
