BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was arrested on Christmas Eve after Lawrence County Central Dispatch received a 911 call from a male reporting a 13-year-old boy had been attacked by his mother. Dispatch reached the boy, who texted he was hiding near the roadway in a shed with his brother.
The boys said their mother was intoxicated and had crashed her car.
They told police they were concerned about their 2-year-old sibling, who was in the house with his mom and stepfather. The boys said they heard two loud pops, and claimed there was a pistol in the home.
When police arrived, they were met by the boy’s stepfather. Officers then approached the home to speak to 36-year-old Danielle Fields.
Fields told police there was drama in the home since the boys’ father could buy them things she could not. She denied any physical altercation took place or any weapons were involved. She said the boys had made things up so they could go to their father’s.
However, in the yard, police found Fields’ Chevrolet Cruze that had struck a shed and was parked in a cinder block and brick fire pit. Police believed Fields had backed the vehicle into the building and then drove into the fire pit.
One of the boys told police he was in the vehicle when Fields crashed the vehicle. He said Fields screamed and attempted to slap him when he exited the vehicle to flee from his mother.
Officers then spoke to the other boy, who said he had gone into the bathroom, and when he got back to his room, he noticed two new desks his mother had bought him. He said his mom came up behind him and bit him on the right arm in a playful manner. However, she began throwing things at him, including the desk, but it missed him. She then called him names and slapped his arms twice. He attempted to leave the house, but she grabbed him and ripped his shirt off, causing scratches to the back of his neck.
The boy also claimed that once outside, his mother searched for him, got into the Chevy with his brother, and crashed into the shed he was hiding in.
The Department of Child Services was alerted.
Fields denied the allegations and said she never bit or hit her children. She also denied crashing the vehicle. She did admit she had drunk Vodka.
The children were released to the custody of their father at the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department.
Fields was arrested on charges of child neglect and domestic battery.
