LAWRENCE CO. – There will be multiple races in Lawrence County, including the race for three seats for county council at large, county commissioner District 2 and 3, county auditor, and school board members.
Those interested in running for one of those offices can file paperwork starting Wednesday, January 10 at 8:00 a.m. at the Lawrence County Voter Registration to seek the nomination on May 7, 2024.
Forms are available at the Lawrence County County Clerk’s Office in the Lawrence County Courthouse.
Forms needed include the CAN-2, CAN-12, CFA-1, and CFA-4 forms for later campaign finance reporting.
The deadline to file is Friday, February 9, at noon.

- January 10, 2024, is the first day of candidate filing.
- January 30, 2024, is the last day for Democratic and Republican party candidates for President of the United States to submit petition signatures to county voter registration officials for certification.
- February 6, 2024, is the last day for Democratic and Republican party candidates for U.S. Senator and Governor to submit petition signatures to county voter registration officials for certification.
- February 9, 2024, is the last day to file a declaration of candidacy to run in the primary election.
- February 16, 2024, is the deadline to withdraw from the primary election (except for presidential candidates)
- February 16, 2024, is the deadline to open the candidate’s campaign finance committee for candidates filing a declaration of candidacy for the primary election and running for offices paying more than $5,000 in a calendar year.
- February 16, 2024, is the deadline for filing candidate challenges against a primary election candidate.
- February 22, 2024, is the deadline for Democratic and Republican party presidential candidates to withdraw from the primary election.

- May 21, 2024, is the first day for candidates for the School Board to file to run in the general election.
- June 20, 2024, is the last day for candidates for the School Board to file to run in the general election.
- July 3, 2024, is the deadline for the Democratic, Libertarian, and Republican parties to fill ballot vacancies.
- July 3, 2024, is the deadline for party chairs to file ballot vacancy paperwork.
- July 15, 2024, is the deadline for minor party and independent candidates to file declarations and certified petitions of nomination.
- July 15, 2024, is the deadline for Democratic, Republican, and Libertarian party candidates nominated at a state convention to be certified to the Indiana Election Division.
- July 15, 2024, General election candidate withdrawal.
- August 1, 2024, is the deadline to file a declaration or withdraw a declaration of candidacy for nomination by a Democratic, Libertarian, or Republican Party town convention in a town having a population of less than 3,500.
