BEDFORD – Paula Stewart won the Republican Caucus in a 20-15 vote of Republican Precinct Committee members.
According to officials, 35 votes were cast out of 40 precinct committee members elected or appointed by the Republican Chairman.
Lawrence County bookkeeper Martha Turner was also seeking the position.
Stewart brings a wealth of experience – banking, project management, and cash management – to the county.
“I worked next door for 11 years,” Stewart said.
She pursues opportunities to work with peers and legislators to become informed and to help craft laws to improve county government. Treasurers across the state often reached out to Stewart as a mentor.
“I thrive on this type of work,” she added.
She was elected by caucus vote to complete the term of the resigning treasurer in 2009 and was subsequently elected to two terms in office.
Stewart, who is retired, has lived in Lawrence County since 1965. She and her husband, Dean, live in the Bono area and have two sons – John (Blair) and Scott (Heather). They have four beloved grandchildren – Avry, Shay, Kyson, and Nolan. Paula is the daughter of Joe Ann and the late John Morris. She and Dean attend the Mitchell First Baptist Church.
Paula Stewart and Martha Turner plan to file for Lawrence County Auditor in the 2024 Election.
