BLOOMINGTON – On Tuesday, January 9, at approximately 1:45 p.m., officers responded to the area of Wheeler Mission, located in the 200 block of South Westplex Avenue, after a report of a man who had been shot.
Upon arrival, bystanders directed officers to a homeless camp in a wooded area behind Wheeler Mission. Officers located a 52-year-old man inside a tent with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The victim was deceased upon the arrival of officers.
Individuals in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots just before calling 911.
No arrests have been made. Police believe the victim and the shooter knew one another. Investigators will continue to follow up on leads throughout the evening to identify and locate a suspect.
