INDIANA – There is no law in Indiana making it illegal to clear your vehicle of snow and ice. Still, police say beware – that doesn’t mean there aren’t consequences and repercussions for choosing not to.
Drivers are responsible for ensuring their vehicles are safe and do not pose a road hazard.
Not removing snow or ice from your vehicle can lead to the snow being dislodged during transit. If it isn’t evident how dangerous this can be, dislodging snow or ice could cause property damage to other vehicles and even injure other motorists or pedestrians.
In Indiana, you can be held liable for those damages and injuries.
So, for everyone’s safety, it’s recommended that all Indiana drivers clean snow and ice from their vehicles before driving. Be sure to clean the top of the hood, the car’s roof, around the lights, and windows.
