BEDFORD – On Tuesday morning, parts of the Lawrence County Courthouse were without heat.
There is no heat to the west side and the basement area of the courthouse.
“With the recent emergency developments and two systems down, I move that we forego the three bid process and vote to move forward with emergency repairs to the heating system,” said Commissioner Dustin Gabhart.
The commissioners voted to allow HFI Mechanical & Building Solution to repair the heating.
It will cost $90,000 to repair the west side and $84,000 to repair the basement heating. The bill will be paid with American Rescue Plan capital improvement funds.
Repairing the heating could take up to 10 days, but the courthouse will remain open.
“We, as commissioners, will not close the courthouse,” added Gabhart. “If an individual office chooses to do that, they can. But as of now, it is business as usual. The offices have taken steps to keep their areas heated and I don’t see any of them closing.
