MITCHELL – A Mitchell woman was arrested on a warrant after she allegedly punched a man in the face and broke his sunglasses during an incident on December 22, 2023.
Police arrested 38-year-old Sumer Edmonson, of English, on charges of domestic battery and criminal mischief.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on that date, Mitchell Police Officer Josh Turner responded to a report of a domestic fight in the 100 block of Dale Street at 10:43 p.m.
The caller reported that Edmonson had punched a male in the face and had left on foot.
While Officer Turner went to the home, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Deputies Kenton Carter and Bailey Duprey searched for Edmonson.
The male victim told police he was struck by Edmonson three times. He told police he had pulled into his driveway with his girlfriend when Edmonson came out of an apartment and began knocking on his vehicle windows.
He attempted to pull out of the driveway, but Edmonson got behind his vehicle and refused to move. Edmondson then opened the car door and punched the male in the face.
The male signed a domestic battery affidavit but refused medical attention.
Police found Edmonson in the 200 block of Woodville Road. She admitted to having an altercation with the male and stood behind the vehicle to get him to talk to her.
She said the male exited the vehicle, grabbed her by the shirt, and slung her across the yard. She also said the male had kicked her in the stomach and crouch area. When asked why she didn’t call 911, she replied she “doesn’t call 911”. She told police she hit the male because he had bitten her in the thumb.
Edmonson stated she did not want to press charges.
She was then given a courtesy ride to Wendy’s in Mitchell.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office, and a warrant was issued for Edmonson’s arrest.
