HELTONVILLE – Police find wanted man hiding in a crawl space of a Heltonville home. He is arrested along with his sister who hid him.
Early today, around 12:30 a.m. Lawrence County Captain Harrison Fleetwood, Deputy Kenton Carter, Deputy Josh Rhoades, and Indiana State Police Trooper Cody Brown went to a residence in the 200 block of Lucas Street to locate 42-year-old James Wright. Wright was wanted on a felony failure to appear warrant in Lawrence County.
Officers went to the home after they received a tip. Wright was staying with his sister, 48-year-old Kaly George.
George had been uncooperative in the past when officers went to the residence looking for Wright, so officers applied for a search warrant.
While searching the home, they found a hidden trap door on the utility closet floor. This trap door opened into the home’s crawl space, where officers located Wright attempting to hide. He was taken into custody without incident.
Police learned that George had hidden Wright on multiple occasions when police came to her home looking for him. Police say George lied about Wright being present when officers arrived Thursday morning, and she continued to be uncooperative and deceitful by concealing Wright.
Officers arrested George on a charge of assisting a criminal by harboring a wanted felon.
Wright was arrested on the outstanding warrant of failure to appear on charges of possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.
Both Wright and George were incarcerated at the Lawrence County Jail.
