KNOX CO. – Businesses in southern Indiana are being warned to pay close attention when accepting cash from customers. The Vincennes Police Department has received several complaints about counterfeit one-hundred-dollar bills circulating in the area.
According to the police, these bills can pass a counterfeit marker test. However, upon closer inspection, they are found to be fake. Counterfeiters are becoming more sophisticated, and detecting fraudulent bills is becoming increasingly difficult.
To avoid this scam, businesses are advised to take extra care when accepting cash payments. It is recommended to check for security features such as the watermark, security thread, and color-shifting ink to verify the bill’s authenticity.
Contact your local law enforcement if you find a bill you believe could be counterfeit.
