BLOOMINGTON – Firefighters from Monroe Fire Protection District, Ellettsville, and the City of Bloomington battled a large fire that damaged two homes and destroyed a garage on Thursday.
Firefighters arrived at South Corey Lane at 8:30 a.m. to find a two-story garage engulfed in flames, and the fire had spread to two nearby homes.
As firefighters searched the homes and evacuated residents, additional firefighters worked to stop the fire from creating any more damage to the homes. Shortly after firefighters began extinguishing the fire, the garage collapsed.
Two additional engines were requested from the Bloomington Fire Department to assist with additional manpower.
Firefighters limited the damage to the two homes next to the garage, but the garage was a total loss.
The siding on a third home melted from radiant heat, and two vehicles were also damaged.
Fire units remained on the scene for an extended time, trying to extinguish hot spots in the garage’s rubble.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
IU Health Lifeline Ambulance, Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Duke Energy, and Center Point Gas assisted on the scene.
