BLOOMINGTON – Aaron Carroll, Indiana University’s Chief Health Officer, will step down from his position.
Carroll will become the president and CEO of AcademyHealth. Academy Health is a nonprofit organization focused on improving healthcare systems through research.
Carroll is expected to assume his new role on March 18. The next Chief Health Officer has not yet been announced.
Carroll has been in the IU School of Medicine for over 20 years.

As I move to AcademyHealth, I carry the lessons and insights gained here. I remain committed to fostering environments where evidence and research lead health policy and practice. IU will always hold a special place in my heart, and I look forward to seeing its continued growth and impact.”
He has served as a Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics, Chief Health Officer, Associate Dean, and Director of the Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Comparative Effectiveness Research.
Caroll is an author of many books, a frequent contributor to the New York Times, and the co-editor-in-chief of The Incidental Economist. His YouTube Channel, Healthcare Triage, has nearly 450K subscribers.
