FRANKLIN CO. – Indiana Conservation Officer Travis Wooley serves Franklin County and has been selected as the 2023 District 9 Officer of the Year.
Wooley has served as a conservation officer for 20 years. He served in Fayette and Warren counties before transferring to Franklin County, where he has served since 2012.
In addition to his regular duties as a field officer, Wooley serves as a field training officer, boat accident investigator, and background investigator.
District 9 includes Rush, Fayette, Union, Franklin, Decatur, Ripley, Jennings, Jefferson, Switzerland, Ohio, and Dearborn counties.
The district award puts Wooley in the running for the Pitzer Award, which is presented to the top overall conservation officer in the state and is selected from the 10 district winners.
The Pitzer Award is named after Conservation Officer James D. Pitzer, who was fatally shot while investigating illegal hunting activity on Jan. 2, 1961, in Jay County.
