Alleged gang member detained on drug charges

TAYLORSVILLE — An Edinburgh man was arrested on 13 drug and gun-related charges after police found methamphetamine and heroin when he was pulled over on Sunday evening.

According to a news release from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, 39-year-old David Riddle was arrested on the following charges:

  • One count of dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 3 felony
  • One count of dealing in cocaine or a narcotic drug, a Level 4 felony
  • One count of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony
  • One count of possession of cocaine or a narcotic drug, a Level 6 felony
  • One count of possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, a Level 4 felony
  • One count of unlawful carrying of a handgun, a Level 5 felony,
  • One count of participation in a criminal organization, a Level 5 felony
  • One count of possession of stolen property, a Level 6 felony
  • One count of possession of a legend drug inject device, a Level 6 felony
  • One gun-related misdemeanor charge
  • Three drug-related misdemeanor charges

Around 11:50 p.m. on Sunday, a deputy spotted a vehicle leaving a gas station in the Taylorsville area. After a reported traffic violation, the deputy initiated a traffic stop at the 71-mile marker on I-65.

The driver, later identified as Riddle, reportedly admitted to the deputy that he had both meth and heroin in the vehicle. Officers found four baggies containing the drugs and two loaded pistol magazines.

Riddle told police he was an active member of a criminal gang called the Hell Raisers.

Deputies secured a search warrant for Riddle’s home in south Edinburgh. There, investigators found more narcotics and drug paraphernalia, and multiple handguns.

Riddle is being held in Bartholomew County Jail.
