Ronald D. Neal, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully passed away in the early morning of Monday, February 19th, at 78.
Ron was known for his quiet strength and profound kindness, leaving a lasting impact on his family and all who knew him.
Born on May 20th, 1945, in Bedford, he was the son of Vernon P. and Lois Neal. Ron is survived by his devoted wife, Dorrine Neal of Bloomington; his brother, Leland Eugene Mundy (Theresa) of Indianapolis; his son, Rickie Neal (Denise) of Bedford; grandchildren, Aiden Neal, Kaitlin Langlois and Jason Rodwich; his stepdaughter, Dawnette Meredith (Les) of San Diego; his stepson, Corey Plunkett (Nicole) of Bloomington; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Sue, Jackie, Sharon, and brother Dennis Neal.
Ron graduated from Oolitic High School and later earned his associate’s degree. He served in Vietnam as a medic, dedicating 20 years of service as a first sergeant in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. Following his military career, he served as the Executive Director of Care in Florida for twenty years, overseeing the drug and alcohol rehabilitation program for the state.
Ron enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. He had a passion for music and once had the opportunity to play guitar for Gene Simmons. Ron also had a love for watching IU basketball,
even in the current season.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 23rd, at the Day & Carter Mortuary. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 24th, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded.
In place of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ron’s memory to the IU Health Bloomington Hospice House at 2810 S Deborah Dr, Bloomington, IN 47403.
Ron will be forever remembered and deeply missed by all.
