INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter has promoted Senior Trooper Susan Rinschler and Trooper Kari Woodard to Sergeant.
Sergeant Rinschler and Sergeant Woodard will be assigned to the ISP Laboratory and serve as crime scene investigators for the Indianapolis District. They were selected for this position through a competitive promotion process, including a written exam, an oral interview, and an overall job performance evaluation.
Sergeant Rinschler is from Birmingham, Michigan, and is a 1996 graduate of Seaholm High School. After high school, she attended Purdue University. In 2012, Rinschler was selected to participate in the 71st Indiana State Police Academy; upon graduation, she was assigned to the Indianapolis District. Rinschler has been a K9 handler for most of her career, patrolling central Indiana with her partner Maverick, who is set to retire soon. She has also served as a hostage/crisis negotiator and field training officer.
Sergeant Woodard is a native of Lebanon, Indiana, and a 2015 graduate of Lebanon High School. She attended Indiana Tech, receiving an associate’s degree in criminal justice. Woodard is also a member of the Indiana National Guard, serving as a Staff Sergeant. Woodard graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy in 2018 and was assigned to the Indianapolis District. During her career, she has been a member of the Mobile Field Force, a hostage/crisis negotiator, and a crash deconstructionist.
In their new roles, Sgt. Rinschler and Sgt. Woodard will serve as a crime scene investigator. They will respond to crime scenes and critical incidents to assist in the investigation by collecting and analyzing forensic evidence, documenting scene elements with video and photography, and ensuring proper evidence storage.
