BEDFORD – On Sunday, February 25th at 1:04 a.m. Bedford Police Sgt. Faheem Bade stopped a white 2014 Jeep Patriot after the driver left its lane of travel going east in the westbound lane of 7th Street near the intersection of J Street.
The driver, 32-year-old Matthew Reynolds was stopped near the intersection of 10th and J Streets.
As Sgt. Bade approached the vehicle he noticed Reynolds fidgeting with something in the center console. Sgt. Bade said Reynolds couldn’t stop his hands from fidgeting and moving uncontrollably, his eyes were bloodshot, and his speech was rapid.
Reynolds told the officer the Polar Pop in his center console had busted.
Reynolds failed several field sobriety tests and he was detained.
The vehicle was inventoried and inside the Polar Pop, Sgt. Bade located a plastic baggie that contained powdered fentanyl.
After obtaining a warrant from Superior Court I Judge John Plummer III, Reynolds was transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for a blood draw. He was then transported to the Lawrence County Jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, OWI endangerment, operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance, and possession of a narcotic drug.
Stone City Collision towed the vehicle.
