LAWRENCE COUNTY- The 50th Annual WBIW Spelling Bee is set to occur Tuesday, 2/27, and Wednesday, 2/28, in the Schaffer Auditorium. The event is free, and the public is encouraged to attend. The doors will open to spectators at 4:30 p.m. on both days.
On day one of the competition, each school will send a champion (grades 3-5) to compete for a chance to advance to the second day of the Spelling Bee. The champions competing on day one are:
- Michael Allbright, Grade 4, St. Vincent de Paul
- Isabelle Franklin, Grade 5, Shawswick Elementary
- Naomi Hall, Grade 5, Springville Community Academy
- Max Harmon, Grade 5, Dollens Elementary
- Riley Johnson, Grade 3, Lincoln Elementary
- Chance Redmond, Grade 4, Burris Elementary
- Jacob Taylor, Grade 5, Lawrence County Independent Schools
- Vincent Wanchic, Grade 4, Needmore Elementary
The winner from day one will come back to compete with the champions from grades 6-8 to determine the Grand Champion of the event. Participants from grades 6-8 are:
- Lucian Barnhart Grade 6 Mitchell Junior High School
- Ruth Burgess Grade 7 Bedford Middle School
- Destiny Evans Grave 7 Lawrence County Independent Schools
- Jace Holt Grade 6 Lincoln Middle School
- Lillabelle McCormick Grade 6 Shawswick
- Ethan Nguyen Grade 7 St. Vincent de Paul
- Will Parsley Grade 7 Dollens Elementary
- Braden Ritter Grade 6 Needmore Elementary
- Calvin Trezona Grade 6 Springville Community Academy
The Grand Champion of the 50th Annual WBIW Spelling Bee will receive the following:
- $100 Cash prize provided by Bedford Federal Savings Bank
- A Pappa Johns Pizza Party for their entire homeroom class
- A large Spelling Bee Trophy
- A Certificate of Participation
- A T-shirt provided by 1340 WBIW AM
