Michael Allbright wins day one of the 50th Lawrence County WBIW Spelling Bee

BEDFORD- Day one of WBIW’s 50th Annual Spelling Bee is in the books. After four rounds of competition, Michael Allbright was named champion after spelling the word “diamond” correctly.

The Spelling Bee continued on through rounds five and six of a spell down to determine second and third-place finishers.

The results are as follows:

First Place: Michael Allbright, 4th Grade, St. Vincent DePaul
Second Place: Riley Johnson, 3rd Grade, Lincoln Elementary School
Third Place: Jacob Taylor, 5th Grade, Lawrence County Independent Schools

Allbright will return today to Schaffer Auditorium to compete in the final spell off, competing with the Lawrence County school champions representing grades 6-8. The Spelling Bee starts at 4:30 p.m.
