BEDFORD – The Annual Girls & Boys Club of Lawrence County Baker 100 fundraiser was held Monday at the American Legion.
The Baker 100 is a fundraiser in honor of Bill Baker, a director and long-term supporter of the Boys Club. He began the event over 20 years ago.
The club grossed $9,620, with a net of just over $9,000.
The money we raise from the ticket sales will be put into the club’s restricted fund to pay for insurance, maintenance, and capital improvements.
Ryan Sullivan, Barbara Sargent, and Dr. Jim Sowders won the top three prizes. They generously donated their winnings back to the Club, a total of $4,725.
“All three individuals have been major champions of the Club and continue to support us with their generous hearts. We are so very grateful for them,’ said Ashley Gilstrap, Director of Resource Development. “The prize money donated back to us will be put in our unrestricted operations fund for anything we might need as we finish the school year and plan for Summer Camp. There is no specific plan for it as we were not expecting to receive it all back, but it will be nice to have it on hand as unexpected things always come up.”
“Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets. A special thank you to American Legion Gillen Post 33 for donating the space for our event and Board Member Shea Hooten for all his help,” Gilstrap added.
