BEDFORD – On Tuesday, March 5th, around 5:30 p.m., Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Andrew Tillett conducted a traffic stop in Bedford after observing a vehicle operating with an expired license plate.
One of the occupants identified himself by a false name and date of birth. Still, officers quickly determined his identity and discovered he was wanted on an active warrant for operating a vehicle while intoxicated warrant through Lawrence County.
As deputies took the male, 22-year-old Shane Kern of Bedford, into custody, they located methamphetamine and hypodermic syringes in his pockets.
A search of the vehicle revealed meth in both a compartment near the center console and on a container attached to the keyring.
The driver, 30-year-old Jacy Taylor of Springville, was arrested. Upon arrival at the jail, Taylor had a glass pipe with meth residue and two syringes with meth loaded inside.
Kern was arrested on the warrant, plus the additional offenses of providing a false identity statement, possession of meth, and possession of hypodermic syringes. Taylor was arrested for possession of meth and possession of hypodermic syringes.
Deputy Robin Compton and Capt. Lonnie Johnson assisted with the stop and investigation.
