MITCHELL – A Mitchell man is facing a theft charge after being arrested for stealing a vehicle and then taking it to a recycling center
Police arrested 52-year-old Adrian Baker on the afternoon of February 28, 2024. According to a probable cause affidavit by Mitchell Police Department Officer Michael Bargo, on May 18, 2021, officers were called to the 500 block of South Second Street after a report of a stolen vehicle. When police arrived, a male said his 1999 white Ford E350 Van had been stolen from the backyard during the overnight hours. The male told police he had hidden the keys inside the home.
On May 19, 2021, Officer Bargo went to Bedford Recycling Center in Mitchell and asked about them receiving a white van. She told police Baker had the van towed to the recycling center. Baker had received a payment of $568 for the van. Baker had presented his driver’s license at the time of the transaction.
Police then learned Baker was in custody in Washington County on a drug charge. He had been arrested on May 16, 2021. Officer Bargo wanted to arrange a time to speak to Baker, but Baker was coming off heroin.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and a warrant was issued for Baker’s arrest.
