ISP urges driver safety following two OWI investigations involving crashes

LAFAYETTE – Sunday evening, Indiana State Police troopers from the Lafayette Post responded to two separate incidents resulting in the arrest of a 23-year-old female from Reynolds, IN, and a 37-year-old male from Lafayette, Indiana.

These crashes occurred in Clinton County and Tippecanoe County, involving single vehicles running off the road.

During their investigations, troopers were able to develop information leading them to believe that both drivers were under the influence of suspected alcohol. Subsequently, the individuals involved underwent prompt medical evaluations, receiving clearance before being transported to the appropriate county jails. Both drivers received a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The Indiana State Police takes this opportunity to emphasize the grave dangers associated with drinking and driving. Incidents like these serve as stark reminders of the potential consequences for the individuals involved and the broader community.

To enhance public safety, the Indiana State Police urges everyone to consider alternative transportation options when consuming alcohol. Utilizing designated drivers, public transportation, or rideshare services can prevent tragic incidents and safeguard lives on the road.

“Ensuring the safety of our communities is paramount. We remind the public to make responsible choices and prioritize their well-being and that of others on the road,” stated Lt. Tom McKee, District Commander of the Indiana State Police – Lafayette Post.

The criminal investigations were thoroughly conducted by Probationary Troopers Parker and Grundell, with assistance from their field training officers Troopers McKinney and Decker. The Tippecanoe and Clinton County Sheriff’s Offices also provided assistance at the scenes, along with additional troopers from the Lafayette Post.
