BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested on Friday, March 16, on charges of battery resulting in injury and disorderly conduct after Bedford Police officers responded
According to Officer Clay Blackburn, police detained 22-year-old Gabriel Conn after he responded to a report of a physical altercation in the 1000 block of I Street at 2:33 a.m.
A woman told police her husband was inside the apartment and needed an ambulance. Police found a male on the floor. The woman told police Conn had pushed her husband and left before police arrived.
Police say the injured man appeared to be in a lot of pain and believed the man had broken his right hip when he fell.
The woman told police Conn had been making threats to the woman’s daughters. She said she had just gotten home from work and that someone was beating on their apartment door. She answered the door, and it was Conn who was irate.
That is when her husband grabbed Conn, and Conn pushed him, causing him to fall backward.
An IU Lifeline ambulance arrived and transported the man to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment.
Officers then began searching for Conn.
Officer Brent Thompkins located Conn at the Circle K at 729 16th Street. Major Blake Wade arrived to assist.
Conn told officers he had been at a bar drinking since 6:00 p.m. and had gone back to his apartment with one of the woman’s daughters. When he woke, he found the woman had left with their child, so Conn went to the apartment to speak with the woman. When he knocked on the door, the woman’s mother answered. Conn says the male grabbed him by the neck. He responded by pushing him, which caused him to fall backward.
Conn then left the apartment.
Officers detained Conn. He was transported to the Lawrence County Jail and then transported to IU Health Hospital for medical clearance on a pre-existing hand injury. At the hospital, Conn became belligerent with the hospital staff, swearing and slinging racial slurs.
Once medically cleared, he was transported to jail.
