ORLEANS—If you want to experience the Total Eclipse of 2024, then plan to participate in the variety of family-friendly, low-key festivities planned for Historic Congress Square in downtown Orleans on April 8.
Buzy B’s Kettle Corn and Boom Burgers and Hometown Scoops food trucks will be on Historic Congress Square to provide you with a hot lunch, some refreshing lemon Shake-Ups, Eclipse-themed ice cream treats, and other tasty snacks. Food trucks will be open around 11 a.m. Several hometown eateries will also be open for lunch that day.
Claire Roub from Sound Sational DJ Services will play some of your favorite tunes in the park starting at 11:30 a.m. Then, the Joel Gragg Duo will play some lively Jazz and classics for us at 2 p.m. The popular band Flatline finishes off a fun-filled day, completing the event with a Beer Garden hosted by SpeakEasy.
“Residents are invited to come downtown to the town square Monday afternoon to view the Eclipse. Bring their lawn chairs/blankets, a picnic or sack lunch if they would like while we spend a fun afternoon together,” said Orleans Chamber Executive Director Robert Henderson.
Be sure to get your Eclipse viewing glasses at the Orleans Town Hall (while supplies last) beforehand so you can safely see this fantastic eclipse scheduled to put Orleans in total darkness at 3:08 p.m. And you’ll want to pick up a souvenir t-shirt from J & S Sportswear set up in the park to commemorate this special day. The Orleans Chamber also has a limited number of Eclipse over Orange County souvenir posters
available for purchase.
Also planned for Eclipse weekend, on Saturday, April 6th, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the Orleans Public Library will host several fun family activities, including modeling, crafting, stories, and a conversation all about the Eclipses.
Everyone is being asked to be patient while out and about on April 8, with the expected increase in traffic and people in town. Be safe, and enjoy this unique experience.
