Two Honduran immigrants charged with attempted murder after I-65 shooting in Indy

INDIANA – Two men are in jail after an extensive investigation by Indiana State Police Detectives determined were allegedly responsible for shooting a man on I-65.

March 17, 2024, ISP Detectives received information from the Seymour Police Department about a gunshot victim in Seymour, and it was believed the shooting occurred in Indianapolis. An adult male initially reported the incident to Seymour Police.

He was suffering from an injury consistent with a gunshot wound to the back of the head and claimed the shooting occurred on I-65 near County Line Road in Indianapolis while he was driving a car. The man was subsequently transported to an area hospital for treatment. When officers checked his vehicle, they found damage consistent with several gunshots.

Indiana State Police Detectives from the Indianapolis District responded to Seymour, and due to the location of the alleged crime, ISP detectives assumed the investigation.

Police say the incident began with a customer dispute at a restaurant on South Keystone Avenue. They quickly identified two suspects.

Witnesses there claimed the victim harassed one suspect to buy him drinks, then told the business owner the suspect was carrying a gun. The suspect responded by calling the victim a snitch.

Then, the two suspects followed the victim in a car as he drove south on I-65. As the victim approached the area of County Line Road on I-65, it is believed occupants of the suspect vehicle pulled alongside him and opened fire, striking the vehicle multiple times and the driver at least once. There was nobody else inside the victim’s car.

Detectives also determined one of the occupants of the suspect’s vehicle used something to cover the license plate before following the victim.

With the assistance of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect vehicle and first suspect were located on March 19, 2024, just after 8:00 p.m. near the 4000 block of Independence Drive in Indianapolis.

Guiver Cruz Juarez

After an investigative process that included search warrants and interviews, detectives arrested 21-year-old Guiver Cruz Juarez of Indianapolis.

Detectives continued their investigation to locate the other suspect. Through an abundance of effort, detectives located and arrested 19-year-old Alejandro Lopez Rosales on March 21, 2024, at an apartment on Troy Avenue in Indianapolis with the assistance of ISP SWAT.

According to police, Cruz-Juarez confessed to driving the SUV but insisted it was Rosales who reached out the window and fired at least four shots in retaliation for the victim harassing them at the restaurant.

Both men, who are Honduran immigrants, were incarcerated at the Marion County jail and face the preliminary charges of attempted murder and criminal recklessness.

Neither this incident nor these suspects have any relation to a recent incident released by the Indiana State Police about a 17-year-old driver being shot at on I-465.
