COLUMBUS – A dental office sustained significant damage after a fire broke out early Tuesday morning in Columbus.
According to the Columbus Fire Department, crews were called to Columbus Family Dental Center at 901 3rd Street around 3:50 a.m.
Firefighters and police officers arrived to find flames shooting from the roof. Fire crews went inside, but the flames were too intense, forcing them to withdraw from the business.
Also experiencing fire hydrant pressure fluctuations, crews were forced to leave the building, where a defensive fire attack was initiated.
As the fire gained traction in the attic area, firefighters used aerial trucks to battle the blaze. It took firefighters about an hour before the fire was under control. Crews continued to work on hot spots around the exterior of the building.
Dr. Laura Bracken arrived on the scene. The business, which had operated at the location for about 20 years, sustained extensive damage, with much of the roof destroyed.
No one was hurt while battling the blaze.
The cause remains under investigation.
Agencies that assisted at the scene include Columbus Township Fire and Rescue, Columbus Police Department, Center Point Energy, Duke Energy, and Columbus City Utilities.
