DECATUR CO. – On Tuesday, March 26, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Indiana State Police were contacted by the Greensburg Police Department for a crash reconstruction to be conducted.
Troopers were advised that the crash occurred at the intersection of East Nightingale Drive and Barachel Lane in Greensburg, Indiana.
According to the Greensburg Police Department, the crash was initiated by a suspicious vehicle incident at the Walmart parking lot. The Greensburg Officer stated that when officers arrived, the male driver of the Chevrolet got in the truck and fled the scene. The Chevrolet drove south from the parking lot and ramped the Chevrolet through a grass-ditch line. The officer stated that he had lost sight of the Chevrolet but stated that the Chevrolet had continued south onto East Nightingale Drive. The officer then drove South down East Nightingale Drive and encountered the two-vehicle crash. The officer said he did not witness the collision.
Both drivers were transported to the IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis—the driver of the Chevrolet, Chane Rager of Nebraska, and the driver of the Toyota Tacoma. John Brooks of Greensburg, Indiana, sustained severe injuries. Brooks was flown to the Hospital by Stat Flight.
Greensburg Police Department advised that Rager’s Silver Chevrolet was confirmed to have been stolen from Nebraska. Additionally, Rager had active, non-extraditable warrants for theft through Nebraska.
The Greensburg Police Department will handle the criminal case, and the Indiana State Police will handle the crash reconstruction. This crash is still under investigation.
