BLOOMINGTON – The Monroe County Health Department, along with IU Health Bloomington, Bloomington Parks and Recreation, Purdue Extension-Bloomington, and the Monroe County Health Equity Council, is teaming up to host community conversations this spring to offer residents a chance to help shape and guide local health initiatives as part of the 2024 community health assessment.
Discussions will center around what is essential for good health and quality of life and what that means in our community. Participants will help identify health gaps and challenges and local resources that protect health.
Ultimately, they will be asked to identify five top health priorities and what they want decision-makers to know.

Local groups and organizations can also elect to host a focus group in-house by requesting a “survey in a box” kit that includes everything they need. The kits are designed to increase participation and broaden community response.
The public health partners complete a community health assessment every three years. Results from focus groups and a community survey are analyzed along with local health data to develop a picture of community health needs. This is used to create a community health improvement plan to steer community-led initiatives over the next three years.
