SALEM – On Easter Sunday, Dejaune Anderson was booked into the Washington County Jail.
On March 15, 38-year-old Dejaune Anderson was arrested in Arcadia, California, for the murder of her 5-year-old son. Her other charges include neglect of a dependent, resulting in death, and obstruction of justice.
In April 2022, a mushroom hunter found Cairo Ammar Jordan’s body. His mother had stuffed his tiny body in a suitcase and thrown it in the woods.
Anderson is expected to appear in court on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
Dawn Coleman, 41, of Shreveport, who was also arrested in connection to Jordan’s murder, was sentenced to 30 years in prison with five years suspended to probation.
A probable cause affidavit states that Coleman admitted to walking into a bedroom of the home where she witnessed Anderson lying on top of the child, who was face down on the bed with his face on the mattress, according to a news release. Coleman told police, “It was already done” when she walked in. She said Anderson asked her to help put Cairo in a trash bag and then into the suitcase.
Prosecutors said the two women then drove to an area outside of Pekin, where they dumped the suitcase in a wooded area.
Anderson believed a demon lived inside the child.
An autopsy revealed Cario died due to an “electrolyte imbalance” most likely attributed to a “viral gastroenteritis.” Investigators say Cairo likely died due to vomiting and diarrhea, leading to dehydration.
