LINTON – Bedford North Lawrence cruised to a 5-0 victory over Linton during girls high school tennis action on Monday.
The Stars (2-1) swept the doubles in straight sets and dropped only one set in singles while winning their second straight dual match.
“We played well today,” BNL coach Joni Stigall said. “We made more errors than we are going to be able to make against some other teams, but we bounced back from those errors well.”
Kenley Craig and Izzy Alldredge rolled past Corinna Brown and Natalie Brinson 6-0, 6-1 at No.1 doubles, while Meryl Klein and Jessie Faubion topped Avery Gamble and Hannah Bredeweg 6-1, 6-4 at No.2.
In singles, Becca Epping fought past Abigail Roney 6-7 (3-7 in the tiebreaker), 6-2, 10-3 (in the deciding super tiebreaker) at No.1. Ava McKinney clipped Kallie Rice 6-0, 6-1 at No.2, and Nadia Anderson conquered Grace Bredeweg 6-1, 6-0 at No.3.
“Becca was pretty shaky today, physically,” Stigall said. “She had to fight through not feeling her best. To be honest, the games she lost she beat herself. When she decided in her head to fight through it all and be a little more patient and a little wiser with shot selection, she was easily the better player. Proud of her fight today and the whole team for getting the job done.”
BNL will visit Loogootee on Tuesday.
